Gift Card Fraud

This article was interesting to me because this actually happened at the store that my brother works at. An employee of the store was taking the customers money for gift cards and then she would pocket the loaded gift cards. She gave the customers blank gift cards.

It’s the perfect crime right? The person who is buying the gift card probably is not going to use it. No one will know that the gift card doesn’t have any money loaded on it until the recipient of the gift tries to spend it. By then she would have had hundreds of dollars of gifts bought… with OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY!

I think these people have convinced themselves that they are not stealing. Imagine being the person who goes in to buy a new pair of jeans or something and then the cahier says, “Sorry, this card is empty.”That would suck!”

I am posting this on the blog because the article mentioned that stores are having the biggest problem with younger workers.

Honesty and integrity are so important to self esteem. It is important for you to be honest with yourself. It is important that you be honest with others. Chances are, if you are reading this, you already understand this. If you are a gift card frauder, knock it off.
