Are You Obsessed With Facebook
- January 13th, 2010
Jasmine is one of Teen Esteem Council’s new guest bloggers. She is a teen girl and she is graduated from high school. Right now she is working two jobs. We asked her to respond to this New York Times article: To Deal With Obsession, Some Defriend Facebook
We want to thank Jasmine for her help and her insight.
I will be the first to admit that I am a Facebook addict. 100%. I make sure to check it at least twice a day. I used to actively participate in games such as Cafe World and Farmville, but have since managed to break that trend. I have about 400 friends, and the strange thing is, there’s only like 10 that I don’t know!
Everyone has a Facebook, or at least those who can do, but I won’t disagree that sometimes Facebook gets in the way of life, as could any social networking site. People are accessing the web from iPods and cell phones now, so it’s not like you can get away from it when you leave the house. You take it with you. The key? MODERATION!
I do check my Facebook twice a day, but I also only allow myself a half an hour or so for each time. I send meaningful messages and a few funny photo comments here and there. Don’t throw your life away, or precious minutes of your day to talk to people who might prefer a phone call or a visit. Don’t forget that handwritten letters are still appreciated. And don’t EVER think that Farmville or Roller Coaster Kingdom can serve as careers.
